Vanessa and Joe: It’s perfect timing.
July 24th, 2013 | SarahLove
Vanessa and Joe waited for what seemed like FOREVER for their baby to arrive. They were given two different due dates nearly a month apart. After the first date past Vanessa cleaned and re-cleaned the house and then tackled various projects occupying her time.
It wasn’t just waiting for the baby that was in suspense, it was also waiting to know if the baby was a boy or a girl!
Vanessa had me on stand by for nearly a weeks time. The date for my travels was getting nearer and for a good moment, I thought the baby was going to arrive after I left! Everyone knows that the baby will arrive when it’s ready. Even though, it may have felt late to Vanessa and Joe, I would say it had impeccable timing! Two days before I was to go out of state, Vanessa told me to head over to her house.
When I arrived at their house and turned the door knob (they told me to come right on in, I have manners friends) I heard silence. As I approached the bedroom, I saw Vanessa being supported by Joe and their daughter Eliana, where they were mid-contraction. Thirty seconds later Vanessa looked up and smiled as if she had just woken from a nap. Rested and ready.
She made it look easy. She claims it wasn’t (and I trust her word) but really. She made it look so easy.
Soon after the mid-wife arrived and Vanessa announced that she was ready to start pushing. Just like that. She said it with confidence and with an ‘on a mission’ tone. I understand that it’s instincts and the baby will come but I honestly think that Vanessa had made up her mind on the length of the laboring of her baby. I wished I would have counted the amount of times she pushed. Only because I can’t remember if it was four pushes…. or was it five? Yes, that is all. No exaggeration.
During the transition and pushing she clearly told her husband exactly what she needed from him. To that, he listened closely. As the baby came out, it was such a surprise to everyone in the room to hear Vanessa announce, ‘It’s a boy!’ I swear it was partially her keen motherly instincts because he was underwater and barely even visible! That’s the only feasible explanation that I have concluded to believe.
Within an hour, the family was eating lunch and getting ready for an afternoon nap as a family. Oh, how I love the luxury of home births!
It was the perfect day for Alexander Joseph to enter the arms of his family.
I adore how their daughter kept jumping on the bed with excitement.
She kept peeking over the pool
to see if the baby had arrived to support her mom.
I think this is when she decided that her labor would consist of four pushes.
Ah, now the support. Sweet girl!
Eliana’s concern is so adorable here.
The beauty of the tear on her face gives me goosebumps every time I look at it. So powerful and gorgeous.
Vanessa when you held your baby for the first time, all I can think of is how gorgeous you are.
One minute old.
LOVE THIS. Proud dad.
Love this kiss.
I love how the cat, Rocko, is yawning on the bed.
It’s so amazing that he is still connected to the umbilical cord. AMAZING.
I love this one of Eliana. It’s like she is stunned, ‘Yeah… my mom just did that. Whoa she is incredible.’
She said it wasn’t easy.
Nice to meet you.
They started calling family. Meanwhile in the other room….
Eliana was cleaning.
And celebrating her brother’s birth.
Perfect timing allowed for 7lbs 11oz born on 7/11. Just think of all the free Slurpee birthdays he can get!
Seriously though. Just look how perfect he is!
Vanessa, Joe and Eliana, It was my absolute honor to document the birth of your newest family member. Thank you for trusting me to document such a private moment in your life. It’s something that I will always be grateful to have witnessed. I look forward to watching both of your children grow throughout the years. Just don’t do the math. Snuggle lots, Sarah
